Listening and hearing are two different things. Active listening takes practice. Sometimes you have to stop transmitting long enough to receive. If you practice selective hearing, you'll never understand what's being said. Interpret and understand the message that is there, not focus on what you want to hear. Communication is interpersonal. When it stops being so, words get lost in translation.
